COVID-19 case total in West Virginia tops 125,000 mark on Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 398 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State — the smallest daily increase since November.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (8), Lewis (14), Randolph (15) and Webster (1) counties.

A total of 176 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 69-year old female from Berkeley County and a 73-year old male from Berkeley County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of February 8, 2021, there have been 1,999,295 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 125,106 total cases and 2,131 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 15,557 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 107,418 people have recovered and 2,131 have died. The daily percent positive was 5.73%.

A total of 105,889 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
