Yard waste collection (must be on pickup list) Yard waste is collected from city residents on the first and third Friday of the month from Dec. 1 through Aug. 31, and every Friday from Sept. 1 through Nov. 30. Residents must contact Buckhannon City Hall at (304) 472-1651 to be placed on the collection list. City residents may take bagged yard waste to the Recycling Center during normal operating hours free of charge and may bring two truckloads per year at no cost.

Monday, May 26, 2025, Memorial Day: In observance of Memorial Day, all city offices, including the Transfer Station, will be closed and there will be no waste collection. All waste collections will be delayed by one day throughout the week. Mayor Robbie Skinner will attend the Memorial Day ceremony at 1 p.m. at Heavner Cemetery, 503 Hall Rd., Buckhannon, WV 26201. The Upshur County Honor Guard, which includes members of VFW Post 3663 and American Legion Post 7, is a key participant. The groups coordinate the ceremony.

The City of Buckhannon is now accepting bids for Yard Reclamation Services: Bids will be received until 2 p.m. on Monday, June 16, 2025, when they will be opened. Bid information may be obtained at Buckhannon City Hall, 70 E. Main St., Buckhannon, WV 26201, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Reporting a necessary repair or registering a concern: To report a pothole, damaged street sign, issue in a city park or any other matter, call City Hall during business hours and submit a work order request, or report the concern through the Citizens Engagement tool at https://buckhannonwv.portal.iworq.net/BUCKHANNON/new-request/700/3444. This will speed up the reaction time to immediately address the issue.
