Charles Owen Woody

Charles Owen Woody, age 89, of S. Kanawha Street, Buckhannon, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.  He passed peacefully in his home under the care of WVU Hospice and his family. 

He was born in Upshur County on October 20, 1934, a son of the late Archie Taft and Nellie Beatrice Bennett Woody.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers:  Everett Henry Woody and Wayman Woody; and one sister Mamie Starkey. 

He is survived by his wife Christina A. Albertson Woody; two daughters:  Kellie Woody-Hyre and husband Jeff of Buckhannon and Melanie Shreve and husband Bubba of Buckhannon; one step daughter Letitia Staten and husband Donnie of Valley Bend; eight grandchildren:  Sierria Staten, Tyler Shreve, Dalton Hyre and wife Taylor, Wade Staten, Coleman Shreve, Mackenzie Staten, Mason Hyre, and Briston Hyre; four sisters:  Mary Meivogel and husband John of Madison, OH, Sue Zoeffel of Buckhannon, Dottie Shaw of Buckhannon, and Gae Johnston and husband Robert of Buckhannon; and many nieces and nephews.

Charles was a veteran of the US Army.  He was a born-again Christian and a powerful witness for the Lord; he attended the Living Word Church of God.  Charles was a humble, gentle man, avid reader, and loved long drives in the country.  As a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he will be dearly missed.

In honoring his request, his body will be cremated.  A private memorial will be held at a later date.
