Charles Clarence Florence, Jr.

Charles Clarence Florence, Jr., age 81, of Bridgeport, died peacefully Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. He was born on October 26, 1942, in Parkersburg, WV, the only child of the late Charles Clarence Florence, Sr. and Dorothy Tuell Florence.

On June 22, 1963, he was united in marriage to Edna Loretta McCutcheon Florence and the couple spent 60 wonderful years together before she preceded him in death on September 27, 2023. Charles was a dedicated family man and is survived by three daughters to whom he referred as “Charlie’s Angels”: Renee and husband Russ Warner of Buckhannon, Denene and wife Cindy Quinton of Morgantown, and Charlea and husband Rev. Dr. Ken Ramsey of Bridgeport.

He is also survived by five grandchildren: Brittany and husband Ryan Conover, Caitlin Warner and husband Frederik Brondsted, Courtney and husband Justin Walton, Jared Ramsey and wife Andrea, and Kristen and husband Todd Gutta; three great grandchildren: Kiralym Conover, and Leo and Elly Ramsey; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; many beloved cousins; and special fur-grandbabies: Maddie, Louie, Neko, and Noodles Quinton. He treasured all his family, especially his grandchildren and many friends.

Charles held a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from WVU and worked at Mylan Pharmaceuticals and also in coal mines in southwestern PA in many roles, most notably as a safety instructor. He was an active United Methodist layman and served as lay leader for a number of years at Wesley UMC in Morgantown. He was known for his dedication, care for others, and selfless service, and was a driver of the church bus for years, picking up elderly residents for church.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 10-11:00 AM, with a funeral beginning at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Dr. Ken Ramsey officiating. Private interment will be made in the Boggs/McCutcheon Cemetery near Reedy, WV.
