Buckhannon Water Board to hold special meeting with county PSDs on Thursday evening

West Virginia Wesleyan has named Zontavius Johnson head coach of its cross country and track and field programs. The veteran coach hopes to bring championships to the Bobcats as the cross country teams prepare for their Regional Preview in North Carolina.

Buckhannon-Upshur swept Lincoln in straight sets but fell to Bridgeport in a three-set thriller at Thursday’s home tri-match. Coach Jessica McQuain praised the Lady Bucs’ growth and effort as the split moved them to 12-8.

Buckhannon-Upshur High School will induct six honorees into its Athletic Hall of Fame on Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. in the high school commons. Tickets are $20 and include dinner and the ceremony; purchase them through the athletic department or event organizers.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Alivia Cogar and Alex Fisher are this week’s Hank Ellis All-Stars. Cogar led the volleyball team in digs across three matches, while Fisher paced the golf team with two top-10 finishes.

The Rotary Club of Buckhannon-Upshur flood relief fund has reached $165,000. The committee has initially assigned more than $12,500 to applicants and is committed to assessing their changing needs and following up over time.

LUCAS will offer low-dose CT lung cancer screenings Oct. 20-24 in Huntington, Cedar Grove, Buckhannon and Bridgeport. Appointments must be made at least 14 days ahead, and eligible uninsured West Virginians may receive screenings through grant funding.
