BUCKHANNON — Buckhannon City Council has named a new director for the Stockert Youth and Community Center and will now begin a search for a full-time assistant director.

Lisa Lamb, who had been serving as interim SYCC director, received unanimous approval for the full-time position at council’s October 1 meeting. Her appointment took effect immediately.

Mayor Robbie Skinner said the SYCC board had recommended Lamb for the position during its meeting earlier that day. Lamb will report to the board and city council.

“As soon as this gavel drops, I’d ask for us to make this effective immediately,” Skinner said before the vote.

Council also approved advertising a full-time assistant-director position. The assistant will work directly with Lamb and report to her.

Lamb became interim director following the retirement of SYCC Director Debora Brockleman, which city officials announced during a September 14 joint meeting of council and the SYCC board.

City councilman Jack Reger congratulated Lamb during council members’ comments.

“We really believe that she’s the right person at the right time,” Reger said.

Councilman Rob Zuliani said he initially had been concerned about the center’s future but was now confident SYCC could continue its mission uninterrupted.

“I know I was really concerned, not knowing what was going to happen,” Zuliani said. “I feel very strongly that we can carry on and continue to serve the youth of the community. So I thank her for taking that on.”
