Buckhannon Fire Department honors former firefighter Joey Slaughter at 17th annual Friendly Way Day ceremony

BUCKHANNON — Since 2007, the Buckhannon Fire Department has honored members of the city fire department family who have contributed to the high quality of life enjoyed by Buckhannon-Upshur residents. 

This tradition continued on Friday, May 17, 2024, as Fire Chief J.B. Kimble and Mayor Robbie Skinner hosted the 17th annual Friendly Way Day ceremony at the Buckhannon Fire Department, where they recognized former firefighter Joey Slaughter.

Skinner met with family members and presented them with an official proclamation commemorating Joey Dale Slaughter. Retired Buckhannon firefighter Jerry Wilfong also spoke of his close relationship with Slaughter.

Kimble presented the history of Friendly Way Day and paid tribute to Slaughter’s 29 years of service to the community.
