BUCKHANNON, WV — Beginning Monday, October 12, 2026, the City of Buckhannon and the Upshur County Commission will provide residents affected by the July 21 flooding with two free gallons of ShockWave by Fiberlock, while supplies last, thanks to the generosity of the West Virginia Southern Baptist Disaster Relief organization.
ShockWave is a professional-grade, EPA-registered disinfectant and cleaner widely used for mold mitigation and post-flood sanitation. This distribution is part of the unified emergency response supporting Upshur County families as they continue restoring their homes.
Distribution details — Flood survivors may receive two gallons of ShockWave, provided in a sprayer, while supplies last:
Buckhannon Fire Department
22 S. Florida Street
Buckhannon, WV 26201
Pickup times: Monday–Friday, noon to 6 p.m. (while supplies last)
Residents with an appropriate sprayer are encouraged to bring it to be filled.
Required personal protective equipment (PPE) — Based on manufacturer guidance from Fiberlock.com, individuals applying ShockWave should use:
- Chemical-resistant gloves (nitrile or equivalent)
- Eye protection (safety goggles or face shield)
- Protective clothing (long sleeves, long pants; disposable coveralls recommended in heavy contamination areas)
- Respiratory protection is appropriate for mold remediation — typically an N95 respirator or higher, depending on mold severity and ventilation
Additional safety precautions — To ensure safe and effective use:
- Maintain adequate ventilation during application.
- Do not mix ShockWave with other cleaning agents or chemicals.
- Remove and discard porous materials that cannot be fully dried or cleaned.
- Keep children and pets away from treated areas until surfaces are fully dry.
- Follow all label instructions for dwell time, dilution (if applicable) and re-entry intervals.
A community effort — The City of Buckhannon and the Upshur County Commission sincerely appreciate Roy Polmanteer, state disaster relief coordinator for the West Virginia Convention of Southern Baptists, whose leadership and partnership made this resource available to Upshur County residents.
