Sandra Kay Bowman, 66, of Weston, WV, who cared for others as a CNA and Upshur County 911 operator and cherished her family, animals and faith, died January 22, 2026, after a long illness.
The Upshur County Commission is accepting applications for a full-time E911 telecommunicator (dispatch) position starting at $15 per hour, with higher pay possible for experienced applicants. Position remains open until filled.
After collecting 1,000 pounds of soft plastic to earn a new bench, the Rotary Club of Buckhannon-Upshur wants to place it at the Charles W. Gibson Library. City officials agreed to refer the request to the library’s board as the recycling effort expands.
A joint law enforcement operation in southern Upshur County on Friday, Jan. 23, led to multiple arrests, according to Upshur County Sheriff Mike Coffman.
Buckhannon has closed the Transfer Station and canceled residential garbage pickup for Monday, Jan. 26 due to winter weather. City Hall is also closed. Commercial pickup remains on schedule, and Monday’s residential route is expected to run Friday, Jan. 30.
