The Buckhannon-Upshur High School girls and boys soccer teams swept Preston County in the first round of the sectional soccer tournament on Tuesday evening.

After a day of rain, the games were moved to the turf field at B-UHS. The Lady Bucs got things rolling early, with Laikelyn Leggett scoring on a header off a corner kick in the opening moments of play. Preston later drew even, sending the game into a golden goal overtime period.

Kennedy Samargo notched the game winner on a long free kick that lasered past the Preston keeper to punch B-U’s ticket to the sectional finals. They’ll host Morgantown on Thursday after the Mohigans topped University 3-0 in the other sectional game Tuesday.

The B-U boys rolled to a 7-0 win in the nightcap. Ryan Hurst tallied a hat trick, with Tyler Sandreth, Dawson Carpenter, Lamar Hurst and Damien Claypool also contributing goals.

The Bucs will also play hosts on Thursday, but they’ll entertain University, which knocked off Morgantown 1-0 on Tuesday.
