BUCKHANNON – Boozy Bakers, a new bakery whose cakes and chocolates come with a splash of bourbon, vodka or rum, opens this Saturday on Kesling Mill Road.
Stacy Marteney, co-owner of Boozy Bakers, said they will hold a grand opening this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 2404 Kesling Mill Road. The bakery offers alcohol-infused baked goods and chocolates, as well as non-alcoholic items.
“My friend Kelli Marsh and I are co-owners of the business, and our husbands are bourbon drinkers,” Marteney said. “We took a trip to Kentucky to the Bourbon Trail. Neither one of us liked bourbon, but we discovered bourbon balls in Kentucky, which are basically chocolates made with bourbon.”
Marteney and Marsh enjoyed the treat so much they decided to make them at home.
“Kelli already dabbled with the cupcakes and cakes, so when we came back, we figured out a way to make them,” Marteney said. “Then we broadened outside of just bourbon; we do all different flavors of whiskeys. We do vodkas, even some rum in our cakes, so we took it to a new level. We amped it up a little bit from just a traditional chocolate to something more fun.”

Boozy Bakers’ hours for their first weekend will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1. Going forward, they will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Marteney said they plan to add more hours later, but those will be the initial starting hours.
“The bakery will be open for those select hours, but we will be open for pickup any evening,” Marteney said. “People can order from us either on our website by filling out our contact form or calling us.”
Some of their popular alcohol-infused selections include rum cakes, traditional wedding cake flavoring with amaretto and a raspberry vodka truffle.
“We do non-alcoholic things too; we’ll do non-alcoholic cupcakes, and I do a blackberry and a raspberry non-alcoholic chocolate. We do cookies, pretzels, Oreos dipped in chocolate,” Marteney said. “We do cater to the crowd that doesn’t necessarily want something with alcohol in it.”
Marteney said the business is unique for the area.
“Everybody’s been super excited about it. There’s nothing like this in the whole state, because we don’t cook our alcohol out,” Marteney said.
