West Virginia Wesleyan College students will collect nonperishable food door to door for the Upshur Parish House from 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.
The collection will coincide with Buckhannon’s citywide trick-or-treat and cover neighborhoods in the city and surrounding areas, according to a release from the college.
Now in its 22nd year, Trick-or-Treat for Canned Goods is organized by the WE LEAD Poverty Reduction team and the college’s Center for Community Engagement and Leadership Development. The food will help families through the Parish House during the holiday season.
Residents who miss the students’ visit or live outside a collection route can bring donations to the Parish House at 68 College Ave. in Buckhannon. Drop-off hours are 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The college lists the Parish House’s most-needed items this year as:
- Mac and cheese cups
- Boxed mac and cheese
- Cereal
- Canned pumpkin
- Canned evaporated milk
- Snack mixes (crackers, pretzels and chips)
- Canned green beans
- Canned corn
- Boxed stuffing
- Canned cranberry sauce
- Canned spaghetti sauce
