Betty Jo Simons

Betty Jo Simons, 90, of Volga, passed away in the comfort of her home and under the compassionate care of WVU Medicine Hospice on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

She was born in Beaver, WV, on November 29, 1933, a daughter of the late Almo Jackson Maddy and Ivory Pearl Griffith Maddy. Betty Jo will now be reunited with her husband in Heaven, Charles Willard Simons. With her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Nos; and one brother, Chester Ray Maddy.

Betty Jo is survived by her family who will forever cherish her memory, three children: Cara Louise Chinery and husband, Bruce, of Hillsboro, NC, Kathy Ann Myers and husband, Edward, of Moorehead City, NC, and Timothy Craig Simons of Volga; four grandchildren: Charles Anthony Myers, Sandra Mouras, Douglas Chinery, and Mallory Myers; three great grandchildren: Brecken Anthony Myers, Brighton Isabella Myers, and Violet James Mouras; one sister, Carolyn Soul and husband, Louis, of Baltimore, MD; and several nieces and nephews.

Betty Jo was a homemaker, a matriarch, a pillar of her family, and a beacon of love and strength. Her love for her home was reflected in her hobbies of crocheting, knitting, and upholstery, which she pursued with pure passion, creating beautiful pieces that mirrored her soul: warm, comforting, and full of love. Each stitch was a testament to her dedication to creating a warm and welcoming haven for her loved ones. Betty was also a devout Christian, her faith being a guiding light that provided solace and strength in times of difficulty. She also had a green thumb and could grow anything, which reflected her nurturing nature.

Betty Jo’s request for Cremation has been honored by Clutter Funeral and Cremation located at 21 Elnora Circle in Buckhannon.
