Buckhannon-Upshur stayed perfect at home with a commanding 3-0 sweep of Pendleton County, improving to 3-4. The Lady Bucs never trailed, served 19 aces and hit .311, with Madelyn Tucker leading the attack with nine kills.
Buckhannon-Upshur placed sixth with a 220 in a six-team outing at Raven Golf Club, while Lewis County won with a 180. Liam Davis led the Bucs with a 49, finishing 14th.
Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School’s boys placed fifth among 59 teams, while the girls finished 17th of 52 at the nighttime Knight Night Relays. Both squads return Saturday for the Buckhannon-Upshur Invitational.
Voris Arnold Hawkins, 64, of Buckhannon, WV, died at his home on August 30, 2026. A dedicated family man and oil field worker, he was a volunteer firefighter and avid outdoorsman.
Buckhannon-Upshur’s JV football team fell 41-14 to Bridgeport after costly turnovers and a second-half surge by the Indians. The 1-1 Bucs host Philip Barbour Monday at 6 p.m.
Buckhannon’s week includes recycling pickup, public board and City Council meetings, plus park reopenings Sept. 4. Residents can also plan for Labor Day closures, delayed waste collection and upcoming community events.
