Basketball ‘Cats let halftime lead slip away in 69-61 road loss to Frostburg State

FROSTBURG (Md.) — The West Virginia Wesleyan College Bobcats traveled to Frostburg State University, Tuesday, for a pre-Thanksgiving showdown with its Bobcats’ counterpart and walked away with a 69-61 loss to fall to 1-4 in the early men’s basketball season.

Wesleyan held tight for the first 20 minutes of competition, taking an early lead and maintaining it until halftime, 30-29.

But in the game’s second half, Frostburg eliminated its deficit and drew even with Wesleyan at 32 with 18:28 remaining. Ten minutes later, Frostburg was up by five. That’s when Clay County, W.Va. junior forward Curtis Litton took control, scoring 12 of the next 14 Wesleyan points to keep the Bobcats close, but it wasn’t enough. Frostburg answered each time.

Litton was the game’s highest scorer with 25 points on 10-of-14 from the field and added 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

Michael Batchelor scored 11 points on 5-of-15 FGs and had five assists. Alex Mirhosseini added nine points on 3-of-9 FGs and a free throw but turned the ball over eight times.

Frostburg’s Jaden Baker dropped 17 points, had five rebounds and dished four assists. Koby Baptiste added 12 points, three rebounds and two assists.

The Bobcats head to Slippery Rock University after the holiday break to take on the Rock next Monday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.
