Arley Junior Godfrey

Arley Junior Godfrey, age 75, of Rock Cave died on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Holbrook Healthcare Center in Buckhannon.

He was born in Buckhannon on September 2, 1949, a son of the late Arley Lane and Velma Smith Godfrey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Shawna Godfrey; one granddaughter, Chelsea Gum; one brother, Randy Godfrey; one sister, Hilda Tenney; and a special uncle, Denzil “Buck” Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Lantz Godfrey; children: Linda and husband Johnny Gum of Belington, Melinda and husband Bobby Kelley of Buckhannon, Angela and husband Neal Posey of Weston, Pete Hayes of Webster County, Shelby Godfrey and partner Keithia Helmick of Ireland, and Darius “Buzz” and wife Sabrina Godfrey of French Creek; seven grandchildren: Christopher Eddy, Makayla Hayes, Devin Hayes, Connor Helmick, Brantley, Emmit, and Kinston Godfrey; one great granddaughter, Kaia Gum; and one sister, Velma Sue and husband Dave Roby of Adrian.

Mr. Godfrey retired from the City of Buckhannon after thirty-seven years as a dozer operator. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Arley loved his Ford vehicles, tinkering in his garage, and enjoyed mechanic work with race cars.

Friends will be received at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 12–2:00 PM, with Rev. Wease Day officiating. Interment will follow in the Bailey Cemetery, where the Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
