Areta Madeline Wilfong

Areta Madeline Wilfong, 89, of Pine Lane, Buckhannon, died Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV.  

She was born on May 15, 1932, in Queens, WV a daughter of the late George and Ocie Lanham Gooden.  On November 24, 1951, she was united in marriage to Harry Newton Wilfong who preceded her in death on April 29, 2000. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one great-grandson Christopher Farnsworth; three sisters:  Retha Carpenter, Janice Tenney, and Leota Squires; and two brothers:  Robert and Marvin Gooden.  

She is survived by four daughters:  Linda Farnsworth and husband Harold of Buckhannon, Sharon Shaw of Buckhannon, Monica Winemiller of Buckhannon, and Lisa Hopkins and husband David of Summersville, WV; seven grandchildren:  Michael Farnsworth, Danny Farnsworth, Michelle Catlett, Bryan Shaw, Keri Lane, Amber Smith, and Jacob Hopkins; nine great-grandchildren:  Makayla Daugherty, Brooklyn Catlett, Hailey Farnsworth, Emily Catlett, Catalina Farnsworth, Levi Farnsworth, Brynn Smith, Raegan Smith, Stella Smith; one great-great-granddaughter Laurel Daugherty; and several nieces and nephews.

Areta was a member of the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, Buckhannon Chapter #18 Order of the Eastern Star, and enjoyed camping and traveling.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, from 12-1:00 PM—the funeral hour, with Pastor Leonard Tenney officiating.  Interment will follow at Buckhannon Memorial Park.
