American Legion State Tournament to get underway Tuesday in Charleston

CHARLESTON – The 2023 West Virginia American Legion state baseball tournament is scheduled to get underway Tuesday and it will be hosted by the University of Charleston at the Welch Athletic Complex.

The double elimination tournament will feature the state’s four Area champions and runner-ups.

Representing Area I is Wheeling (champion) and Parkersburg (runner-up), Region II is Morgantown (champion) and Bridgeport (runner-up), Region III is South Charleston (champion) and Charleston (host) and Area IV is Berkeley County (champion) and Potomac Valley (runner-up).

The winner will advance to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament at Dale Miller Field in Morgantown. If Morgantown wins the state tournament, the state runner-up will also advance to regional play.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament will begin Aug. 2.

Game 2 – Wheeling (29-6) vs. Potomac Valley (17-9), 1:30 p.m.

Game 3 – South Charleston (19-3-1) vs. Bridgeport (28-6), 4 p.m.

Game 4 – Charleston (10-14) vs. Morgantown (21-11), 7:30 p.m.
