Johnston, Wright lead Little Lady Bucs at Stonewall Invitational
Upshur County’s Oct. 5–11 sports schedule features Buckhannon-Upshur and West Virginia Wesleyan teams in action. Highlights include MEC golf championships, football matchups, soccer, volleyball and the Wesleyan Bobcat Bash tennis event.
Felix Stump and Sylas Andrews finished second and third as the B-UMS Little Bucs powered to the Stonewall Invitational team title with 32 points. Four top-10 finishes fueled the victory over St. Francis and Bridgeport.
Coby Smith tallied two goals and an assist as Buckhannon-Upshur outlasted Cabell Midland 4-3. Jimmie Green’s winner with five minutes left capped a gritty Bucs performance and boosted their playoff seeding hopes.
Gwendolyn Rogosky broke the 20-minute barrier for the first time, finishing fifth in 19:39.5 at the Stonewall Invitational. The Lady Bucs placed third despite missing Chloe Lewis, with nine runners posting personal-best times.
Buckhannon-Upshur sophomore Mitchell Whitley cracked the top 10 at the Stonewall Invitational, placing eighth in 16:47.3 among 105 runners. The Buccaneers finished eighth as a team and now turn their attention to the Big 10 Conference Championships.
An endowed WVU scholarship honoring astronaut Capt. Jon A. McBride supports aerospace engineering students, with first preference for West Virginians.
