The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 1,026 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 28 since the last report.
Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (14), Barbour (1), Lewis (14), Randolph (9) and Webster (18) counties. In Upshur County, there was no change in the overall number of active cases in the last 24 hours.
Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 86-year old female from Barbour County and a 71-year old male from Greenbrier County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of July 16, 2021, there have been 3,064,208 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 164,933 total cases and 2,919 deaths,” according to a press release.
The daily percent positive was 2.17%.
A total of 866,350 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 48% of the state.
