BUCKHANNON, W.Va. –– Want to be part of Upshur County Relay for Life, but don’t know how to get started? Want to help in some way without committing to be a part of a team? There is a place for you to help fight back against cancer by joining Upshur County Relay for Life and serving on the committee or as part of a fundraising team.
In 2020 and early 2021, Relay for Life fundraising efforts were hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is more important than ever to fundraise for the American Cancer Society which supports research for a cure and programs that directly support cancer survivors.
We will have a team meeting and informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 24 at Christian Fellowship Church. Everyone is invited to come find out how to get involved in the 2021 Relay for Life.
Upshur Relay for Life chair Robin Oldaker said, “It has been a real challenge to come up with creative, COVID-19 safe ways to raise money for Relay this year, but we haven’t stopped trying! We have plans for a great Relay for Life event in August. Cancer hasn’t stopped during the pandemic and neither have we! Join us for an evening of fellowship, good food, entertainment, games and honoring those who cancer has affected in so many ways.”
Upshur County Relay for Life is planning an in-person Relay event on Saturday, Aug. 14 from 6-11 p.m. at Jawbone Park with the theme Lasso a Cure. Cancer survivors will be celebrated with a special reception and walk.
