Charleston, WV– U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $3,203,020 from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to combat violent crime and improve data recording in West Virginia. This funding was made available through DOJ’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program, National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP), and the State Justice Statistics (SJS) program.
“West Virginians should feel safe in their communities, and this funding will help the justice system in West Virginia protect our fellow West Virginians by combatting violent crime and supporting data collection. I am pleased by this investment in our state and I will continue to advocate for funding that helps West Virginians stay safe,” said Senator Manchin.
“It is important that we equip our state’s Division of Justice and Community Services, Supreme Court of Appeals, and community partners with the resources they need to do their job properly, and keep West Virginians safe. I am encouraged to see this funding coming to bolster justice and reduce crime within our state, and thank the DOJ for their continued support of initiatives in West Virginia,” Senator Capito said.
