Miss Piggies barbecue restaurant to close doors

BUCKHANNON – Another restaurant in downtown Buckhannon is closing.
Miss Piggies, located on North Kanawha Street, announced July 23 that they will be permanently closing their doors.

The announcement states that the restaurant will be opened for dinner service only and thanked the Buckhannon community for their support during the restaurant’s three years of business.

“We’re not sure when our last day will be,” said owner/manager Maggie Blonn. “I’ll stay open for dinner shift until I sell it or until further notice,” she said.

For now, the restaurant, will remain open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 4 pm to 8 pm for outdoor dining and takeout orders only. Miss Piggies offers pulled pork, brisket, ribs, meatballs and loin by the pound or half-plate as well as sandwiches and traditional barbecue sides dishes such as coleslaw, beans and potato salad.

The announcement of Miss Piggies impending closure came just weeks after the long-standing Buckhannon eatery, the 88 Restaurant & Lounge, permanently closed its doors on July 11, citing the Coronavirus pandemic as the cause.

However, when asked if the pandemic and related restrictions to public dining were the cause of Miss Piggies’ closure, Blonn said it wasn’t the only factor in her decision.

“Coronavirus affected all businesses,” said Blonn, “but it wasn’t the only factor. Life just took us down another path.”

Blonn explained that she was selling everything in the building including the equipment and furniture, but not the Miss Piggies, LLC. “I don’t own the building,” said Blonn, “but it is available to lease.”

“The (Buckhannon) community has been very supportive of us through this crisis,” said the mother of four. “Our family will be staying in the area.”
