Son of renowned graphic artist Charley Harper to attend exhibition, mural unveiling in Buckhannon on Friday

WVWC’s Sleeth Gallery is pleased to announce Charley Harper: Prints & Paintings, an exhibition of work by renowned designer and West Virginian, Charley Harper.

The exhibition will be on view through November 6 with a special reception held on Friday, October 25 from 4-6 p.m.  The reception will include a book signing and sales event by Charley’s son, Brett Harper.

At 9:30 p.m., ART26201 will unveil four new Charley Harper murals in Traders Alley.

Harper, a native of Upshur County, spent his time admiring the mountains and wildlife of West Virginia.  Charley attended West Virginia Wesleyan College for a brief time before transferring to the Art Academy of Cincinnati.  He later received an honorary degree from WVWC in 1974.

Charley Harper is famous for his geometric depictions of wildlife using a style that he referred to as ‘minimal realism.’ The exhibition will feature a selection of his serigraphs from the WVWC Special Collections, as well as paintings and illustrations.  While reproductions of these paintings and illustrations graced the cover of Ford Times Magazine, the WVWC Collection remains the only place to view the original works.

Admission is free and all gallery events are open to the public.

The Sleeth Gallery is located on the first floor of McCuskey Hall at West Virginia Wesleyan College, at the intersection of East Main Street and College Avenue in Buckhannon, W.Va.

Gallery hours — Monday & Wednesday: 2:30 – 5:30 p.m., Tuesday & Thursday: 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Friday: 12:30 – 5:30 p.m. or by appointment.
