BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia State Police are searching for a man who allegedly fled the scene of a fire that broke out at a residence along the Spruce Fork Road just before 6 p.m. Friday.
According to scanner traffic, state police were searching for an individual that ran from the residence just as city and county fire departments arrived at the house to fight the fire.
Buckhannon Fire Chief J.B. Kimble said the house had been unoccupied at the time the fire began and the department planned to contact the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate its cause.
Witnesses on scene said a firefighter was injured while battling the blaze when the back part of the house collapsed. Kimble verified that a firefighter had been injured on scene but did not release the individual’s name. According to scanner traffic, the person was transported to Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston for medical treatment.
The Buckhannon Fire Department, Washington Volunteer Fire Company, Upshur EMS and the Buckhannon detachment of the West Virginia State Police responded.
