West Virginians can drop off unused or expired medicines for free, anonymous disposal Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and its community partners lead the event. The West Virginia First Foundation, a nonprofit set up to distribute West Virginia’s opioid settlement money, is urging residents to take part. Find a participating site at DEATakeBack.com or through the West Virginia collection-site locator.
“National Drug Take Back Day is an important reminder that we all have a role to play in prevention,” West Virginia First Foundation Executive Director Jonathan Board said in a release. “Unused or expired medications left in our homes can pose serious risks, but safely disposing of them is a simple step we can take to reduce the potential for misuse. We encourage West Virginians to take part in this nationwide effort to help keep our families and communities safe.”
Do not bring syringes, sharps or illicit drugs. Liquids such as cough syrup need to stay in their original containers, with caps tightly sealed so they do not leak.
