Eligible private nonprofits and churches in Upshur County have until Dec. 7 to apply for federal loans to repair damage from the July 21–22 storms and flooding, according to an Oct. 8 notice from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The SBA’s nonprofit flyer lists July 7, 2027, as the deadline for economic injury applications. My Buckhannon’s Sept. 22 story covered the earlier Oct. 3 physical damage deadline for businesses, nonprofits, homeowners and renters.

The new notice covers private nonprofits, including faith-based organizations, affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, flooding, landslides and mudslides. Its 11 eligible counties are Upshur, Barbour, Doddridge, Lewis, Pendleton, Pleasants, Randolph, Ritchie, Tucker, Tyler and Wetzel.

Physical damage loans help replace or repair property, equipment, inventory and other assets. Economic injury loans provide working capital to cover operating expenses resulting from the disaster.

Nonprofits can borrow up to $2 million, with interest rates starting at 3.625% and repayment terms as long as 30 years. Borrowers owe no interest or payments for the first 12 months after disbursement.

“SBA disaster loans can be increased up to 20% of the verified losses to make building upgrades,” the agency’s flyer states.
