Ronald “Ron” Burwell, age 60, passed away on June 19, 2026, at the Pittsburgh Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Born on June 1, 1966, in Ohio, Ron proudly served in the United States Air Force. He was a devoted fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and had a deep love for cars, especially classic muscle cars. He often dreamed of restoring a Camaro one day. He was known for his strength, determination, and his willingness to keep fighting even through difficult times.
Ron worked for many years in security at correctional facilities in Ohio, including the prison where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.
During his care, Ron formed strong bonds with the staff at the Huntington VA, Third Floor Same Day Surgery unit. He deeply valued the kindness and compassion shown to him by Scott, Jake, Jared, DJ, Cindy, Tracy, Susan, Anita, Lovell, Jessica, Ashley, Tommy, Leslie, Chris Beaver, and Chris, whom he considered dear friends.
Throughout his illness, Ron remained deeply grateful for the care he received. Even in his final days, he expressed his appreciation to the staff of the Department of Veterans Affairs and all healthcare professionals who supported him with compassion and dignity.
Ron was preceded in death by his father, Rodney Burwell; his mother, Donna Burwell; and his sister, Roberta “Bobbie” Burwell.
He is survived by his wife, Angela Burwell; his son from a previous marriage, Andrew Burwell; his granddaughter, Erin Burwell; and many other family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Those closest to Ron will remember his kind heart, his humor, and the love he shared so freely. He affectionately called his wife his “Angel,” and even during his hospitalization, hoped to find an angel pin for her—a small gesture that reflected his thoughtfulness and love.
Ron will be remembered for his love of family, his pride in serving his country, his passion for cars, his loyalty to The Ohio State Buckeyes, his dedicated work in security, his grateful spirit, and the lasting impact he made on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In accordance with his wishes, Ron will be cremated. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the WV National Cemetery in Grafton.
