Mary Ellen Davidson

Mary Ellen Davidson, age 83, of Buckhannon, WV, died Friday, April 3, 2026, at Crestview Manor in Jane Lew, WV. She was born October 9, 1942, in Akron, OH, a daughter of the late Willis Clayton and Cinderella Edna Teter Davidson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Willis Clayton Davidson, Jr. and John Edward Davidson and wife Betty Jo, and her former husband, Joseph McCoy.

She is survived by one sister, Hallie Hurst and husband Jim of Buckhannon; one brother, Kenneth Teter Davidson and wife Charlotte of Buckhannon; and her beloved cats who remain in the sanctuary she created for them. She is also survived by nephews John R Davidson and wife Billie, Kenneth “Buddy” Davidson, Matthew Davidson, Billy Hurst and wife Tracy, Sam Hurst and wife Ashley, and nieces Joni Roby, Jena Liggett, and Jan Davidson Tisdale, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mary Ellen graduated from Alderson Broaddus College with a BS degree in Nursing and completed her Master’s Degree in Psychiatric Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. She worked for several years as a psychiatric nurse who counseled clients, taught students, and cared for patients. Her most memorable work was done at WV Wesleyan College, Davis and Elkins College, and Fairmont State College, as well as United Hospital Center and Sharpe Hospital.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Buckhannon and of the Rock Cave Eastern Star Aletha Chapter #82. Mary Ellen enjoyed playing the piano both for her church and the Eastern Stars.

In honoring her wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Buckhannon with Pastor Doris Brunty officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the First Baptist Church of Buckhannon’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/fbcbwv/). During the memorial service, friends will be encouraged to share memories of Mary Ellen.
