St. Joseph’s Auxiliary funds special bereavement necklaces for families experiencing pregnancy loss

During life’s most difficult moments, even the smallest gesture can provide comfort and remind families they are not alone.

The St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary has once again demonstrated its commitment to compassionate patient care by funding a new bereavement program for families who experience the heartbreaking loss of a baby during delivery.

Through this special initiative, families will receive a memorial necklace featuring the birthstone corresponding to the month of their baby’s birth. The necklace serves as a lasting keepsake and a tangible reminder of a life that, no matter how brief, will always be loved and remembered.

The necklaces will be included in the bereavement care baskets thoughtfully assembled by the hospital’s Obstetrics Department. These baskets provide comfort items and resources designed to support families as they navigate an unimaginable loss.

“Our goal is to provide not only exceptional medical care but also compassion and support during some of life’s most challenging moments,” said Amber Starkey, RN, director of Obstetrics at St. Joseph’s Hospital. “The addition of these beautiful birthstone necklaces gives families something meaningful they can hold onto and cherish. We are incredibly grateful to the Auxiliary for helping make this possible.”

For decades, the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary has supported countless patient-centered initiatives throughout the hospital, funding programs and projects that enhance the patient experience and provide comfort to those in need. This latest project reflects the Auxiliary’s ongoing dedication to caring for the whole person and supporting families during both joyful and difficult times.

“The Auxiliary is honored to support this meaningful project,” said Beverly Reger, acting Auxiliary president. “While we cannot take away the pain of loss, we hope these necklaces offer families a small measure of comfort and a lasting reminder that their baby will never be forgotten.”
