Pittsburgh man Ramon Juan Sims Jr., 29, pleaded guilty to a fentanyl distribution conspiracy in North Central West Virginia after police stopped him in Weston with fentanyl and $2,040. A hotel search turned up 3,750 fentanyl stamps; he faces up to 20 years in prison.
A toll collector was taken by EMS to CAMC General after a steel I-beam from a southbound tractor-trailer struck a toll booth on the I-77 Turnpike near mile marker 83.
The Upshur County Commission is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time/fill-in position (16 hours per week) at the Lewis-Upshur Animal Control Facility. Applications and resumes received by 4:00 pm on June 12, 2026 will be reviewed, though applications may be considered until the position is filled.
Sandra Eileen (Hablitzel) Presar, 85, of Buckhannon, West Virginia, passed away surrounded by family on May 29, 2026. She was a longtime West Virginia Wesleyan College faculty member and community arts supporter.
Helga A. Riffle, 89, of French Creek, died May 30, 2026, at WV Caring Hospice House in Elkins, WV. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and is survived by her daughter, Petra Riffle, and extended family.
