Problem Solver’s Consultants has been named the 2026 West Virginia Rural Small Business of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration, according to a press release from the Buckhannon-based company.
The award will be formally presented at the SBA West Virginia District Office Awards Luncheon on May 6 in Fairmont as part of National Small Business Week 2026.
The WV Rural Small Business of the Year award recognizes outstanding small businesses that demonstrate exemplary performance, community impact and growth in rural communities across West Virginia. Problem Solver’s Consultants was nominated for the honor by Susie Higgins of the West Virginia Small Business Development Center.
“This recognition is truly humbling, and I am grateful to the SBA and the WV SBDC for this incredible honor,” said Michael Ruffing, owner of Problem Solver’s Consultants. “Building this business has been a team effort from the very beginning, and this award belongs to everyone who has been part of our journey — my family, our clients and our community here in Buckhannon.”
Ruffing credits much of the business’s success to the guidance and support of Higgins, whose coaching and resources helped Problem Solver’s Consultants navigate challenges and capitalize on growth opportunities. He also acknowledges the support of his wife, Rachel Ruffing, as well as friends, family and loyal clients who have believed in the business since its founding.
Problem Solver’s Consultants is among several West Virginia small businesses to be recognized at the May 6 awards luncheon in Fairmont. The event celebrates the outstanding contributions of small business owners across the state during National Small Business Week, which runs May 3–9, 2026.
