BFD announces temporary traffic restriction to Friendly Way for fire engine pump tests

Tygarts Valley Conservation District welcomes Marsha Waybright and Sarah Cunningham as supervisors serving Tucker and Randolph counties. Their conservation expertise, community leadership and Appalachian roots will strengthen the district’s mission.

Deborah Kay Strader, 73, of French Creek’s Carter Community, passed away peacefully at home on September 20, 2026. A devoted Christian, educator, wife, mother, and grandmother, she was known for her kindness and generosity.

Joan Maria Doris, MSW, DSW, of Ithaca, passed away on September 14, 2026, after a short illness. A devoted social worker and family therapist, she loved Appalachia, kayaking, hiking, fiber crafts, and baking.

Upshur County’s Sept. 21-27 sports calendar features football, soccer, golf, volleyball, cross country, swimming and tennis. Buckhannon-Upshur and West Virginia Wesleyan teams compete throughout the week, with no events Sunday.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Athletic Hall of Fame will induct five standout athletes and the 1993 state champion boys soccer team Oct. 3. The Class of 2026 will also be honored at halftime of the Oct. 2 football game.
