Charles “Charlie” J. Carpenter

Charles “Charlie” J. Carpenter, age 93, of Buckhannon, WV, died Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon.

He was born October 16, 1930, in French Creek, WV, a son of the late Osborn and Addie Wilson Carpenter. On August 13, 1949, he married Ruby Ann Marsh who preceded him in death on November 6, 2016. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Lake and Annabelle Hawkins and two brothers, Glen and Goff Carpenter.

He is survived by one son, Larry Carpenter (Deborah) of Little River, SC; one daughter, Vickie Posey (Stephen) of Buckhannon; one grandson, Sean Ford of Buckhannon; four granddaughters, Lyndsi Cress (Rob) of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Megan Miller (Brittiny) of Buckhannon, Calli Fox (Douglas) of Dailey, WV and Susan Grasty (David) of Clarksville, TN; six great-grandsons, Blake and Brody Hosaflook and Rowen and Connor Ford all of Buckhannon, Jackson Fox of Dailey and Maxwell Cress of North Myrtle Beach; two great-granddaughters, Avery Fox of Dailey and Emilia Cress of North Myrtle Beach; one sister, Shirley Sprecker and daughter, Angie of Buckhannon; special niece, Jane Rockey of Buckhannon and several other nieces and nephews and special friends, Dave and Debbie Weese and Debbie Shapiro all of Buckhannon.

Charlie retired from Meadow Gold Dairy after 35 years of service as a Branch Manager. During this time, he was also managing and maintaining numerous rental properties around the area. He was very active in his community, holding membership at the Elks Lodge 1736, Jaycees, and the Buckhannon Country Club where he was a past president. Charlie was an avid bowler and golfer. He even achieved three hole-in-ones during his golfing career. Two at the Buckhannon Country Club and one at the Riviera Golf Club in Ormond Beach, FL. Charlie was known for his orneriness and whit, keeping everyone laughing.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Serenity Care Home for their loving care of Charlie.

Friends will be received Sunday, February 4, 2024, from 11 AM to 2 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Ed Lowther officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethlehem Church Cemetery in French Creek, WV. Following the burial friends are welcome to join the family for food and fellowship at the Elks Lodge in Buckhannon.
