West Virginia selected for federal behavioral health clinic demonstration program
Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School has released its fourth quarter honor roll, recognizing students who earned a 3.5–4.0 GPA. The list includes dozens of sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders honored for their academic achievement.
Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced a $3.4 million Rural Local Health Challenge to boost prevention-focused, community-based health initiatives across West Virginia under the Rural Health Transformation Program.
Buckhannon officials said the city contributed nearly $85,000 in labor and services to this year’s Strawberry Festival, noting the event is nearing the city’s capacity and should focus on getting better, not necessarily bigger.
WVDNR stocked trout in 31 West Virginia lakes and streams during the week of May 25, including the Blackwater River, Cranberry River, Shavers Fork and South Branch. Stocking runs January 1 through May 31 and returns for two weeks in October.
Buckhannon officials say the USDA’s $31 million loan and $2 million grant are major milestones for the new water treatment plant, but the city is still working with multiple state and federal partners to secure the remaining $14 million needed to move the project to construction.
Buckhannon’s weekly buzz includes B-UHS student leaders passing the torch, Community Theatre beginning rehearsals and Festival Fridays kicking off June 5 with the Davisson Brothers.
