TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School volleyball team had a busy week last week with three matches going 1-2.

They dropped a 2-1 decision to East Fairmont last Monday (25-15, 25-27, 25-19) and followed that up with a 2-0 win over Taylor County on Wednesday (25-20, 25-20). They ended their week with a 2-0 loss to Belington on Thursday (25-20, 25-13).

Against East Fairmont, Madelynn Tucker had four kills while Kristine Frye recorded one. Jayla Westfall had five assists and three aces while Jaylee Wayts had two aces and Tucker and Braylea Squires each had one ace.

In their win against Taylor County, the Little Lady Bucs recorded seven kills (Tucker 2, Babby Weese 2, Frye 1, Squires 1, Westfall 1).

Westfall had five assists while Frye had one.

The Little Lady Bucs collected 17 aces in the win (Fyre 7, Squires 6, Tucker 2, Wayts 1, Pyper Mazarek 1).

Against Belington, Frye had two kills while Weese had one and Westfall had three assists. Mazarek served up three aces while Westfall had one.

The action left the Little Lady Bucs with a 1-4 record.

“We had a long week with three games,” noted B-UMS head coach Sheena Westfall. “Our game against Taylor County was one of our best games all season. We stayed consistent with our communication and movement, allowing us to come away with the win. When we play that way, we will be hard to beat. We have to find a way to get that consistency in play. East Fairmont and Belington, we saw moments of solid play but not enough to get the win. We are still trying to get comfortable in our lineup as well. These girls have so much potential that we are just trying to get everything to fall into place right now.”

In junior varsity action, the Little Lady Bucs lost to East Fairmont 2-0 (25-13, 25-12) and Taylor County 2-1 (25-20, 22-25, 15-25) and beat Belington 2-0 (25-17, 25-14).

The Little Lady Bucs were slated to play Notre Dame at home on Monday.

They will be back on the court Wednesday hosting Mountaineer Middle at 6 p.m.
