Wesleyan swimmers battle D&E on Senior Day

BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan swim teams hosted Davis & Elkins on Saturday (Jan. 21) for the Battle of the Hills meet, as well as recognized seniors.

On the women’s side, relay team composed of Alienor Dalle, Jennifer Williams, Annalise Gentilozzi, and Alayna Crane began the competition with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, completing the race in a time of 1:48.86. Gentilozzi contributed further to the team’s score by earning a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing the race in 27.69 seconds. Williams also secured second place in the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:12.75. Later in the meet, Williams placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:19.96. In the 200-yard fly, Dalle secured second place by completing the race in 2:44.50, maintaining her lead throughout the entire race. Morgan Bennett also placed in the top three in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing the race in 1:01.57. Crane narrowly missed first place in the 200-yard backstroke, coming in at 2:22.40, just 2 seconds behind the winner. Finally, the relay team composed of Dalle, Bennett, Crane, and Zeina Abdelsalam secured second place in the 400-yard freestyle, finishing the race in 4:10.67.

On the men’s side, the relay team composed of Ben Esposito, Nick Gerosa, Stephen Groves II, and Jack Gutekunst finished the race in 1:34.96, securing second place. Gerosa also earned a third-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle. Gutekunst also contributed to the team’s score by placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing the race in 1:07.59.

The women’s swimming team fell versus the Senators 118-46. The men’s swimming team also fell versus the Senators 131-20.
