68 new cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia on Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 68 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., on August 17, 2020, there have been 360,669 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 8,632 total cases and 160 deaths,” according to a press release.

One of the two new cases reported in Upshur County on Sunday was removed.

“As case surveillance continues at the local health department level, it may reveal that those tested in a certain county may not be a resident of that county, or even the state as an individual in question may have crossed the state border to be tested. Such is the case of Fayette, Harrison, Randolph and Upshur counties in this report,” according to the release.

No other information has been released about the active local case.

New cases were reported Monday in Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Hampshire, Hancock, Kanawha, Logan, Mason, Mercer, Mingo, Monongalia, Nicholas, Ohio, Putnam, Raleigh, Roane, Taylor and Wyoming counties.

About 1,941 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 6,531 people have recovered and 160 have died. The daily percent positive was 1.18%.
