XC Bucs put two runners in the top 20 at Bearcat Invitational

GRAFTON – In a field of 117 runners, the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneer cross-country team placed two performers in the top 20 at the Grafton Bearcat Invitational this past Saturday.

Jack Waggy finished 12th with a time of 17:03 while Joey Nolte was 19th with a clocking of 17:31.

The rest of the Buccaneer line-up were Alex Sappey in 27th (17:52), Isaac Snodgrass in 56th (19:04), Jeremy Allman in 84th (21:06) and Bryce Mullens in 88th (21:21).

“The boys had some solid personal records all around,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Taylor Stacy. “Joey, Alex, and Jeremy all ran best new times for that course. Our younger guys are showing a lot of promise for the future.”

Ryan Hughes of Frankfort won the race with a time of 16:05 while Joshua Bodkins of Elkins was second with a time of 16:33.

The Bucs finished sixth out of 15 complete teams with 172 points.

Frankfort won the team title with 52 points while Elkins was second with 67 and Doddridge County was third with 117.

The Bucs will be back in action next Wednesday at the Stonewall Jackson Invitational at the Stonewall Resort.

The boy’s race will begin at 4:45 p.m.

“We’re just now about a month out from conference championships and regionals,” concluded Stacy.
“We’re going to buckle down these next few weeks and make sure we’re prepared to compete with the best of them.”
