WVWC’s Stoffel named MEC Softball Pitcher of the Week

Kendall Stoffel of West Virginia Wesleyan was named Mountain East Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week after earning three complete-game victories, including a one-hit shutout, and striking out 17 over 21 innings.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s MEC Softball Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
West Liberty’s Sydney Johnson was honored as the MEC Softball Player of the Week with MEC Softball Pitcher of the Week laurels going to Kendall Stoffel of West Virginia Wesleyan.
 
Johnson, a junior outfielder from Zanesville, Ohio, led the Hilltoppers to back-to-back weekend sweeps of MEC North rivals Fairmont State and Frostburg State with a big weekend at the plate. Johnson hit .545 with an eye-popping 1.000 slugging percentage and a .688 on-base average. She capped her big weekend with a home run, double and five RBIs as WLU rallied to hand Frostburg State an 8-5 loss in Game 2 of Saturday’s twinbill.
 
A senior right-hander from St. Albans, W.Va., Stoffel earned her second Pitcher of the Week award in the past three weeks after going 3-0 with a trio of complete-game victories for the Bobcats – highlighted by a one-hit shutout in a 1-0 win against Charleston! For the week, Stoffel scattered 13 hits and 3 earned runs over 21 innings in the circle while striking out 17 and issuing 6 walks.
