WVWC’s Hansford breaks school record in triple jump

MOUNT UNION — Two weeks after West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Samantha Cash broke the school’s triple jump record at Marshall University’s Indoor Invitational, Michael Hansford broke the school record for men’s triple jump at the Jim Wuske Collegiate Invitational on the campus of the University of Mount Union.

Hansford’s mark was 14.63 meters (48 feet) and he now leads the Mountain East Conference by almost four feet. The performance also earned a NCAA provisional mark, putting him 29th in the country for NCAA Division 2.

Cash also had a strong indoor showing, moving to the top spot in the MEC for high jump with a mark of 5’3”. She’s also first in the conference in the triple jump and second in the 60-meter hurdles.

Distance specialist Leigha Hall ran a 17:52 in the 5,000 meter, putting her second in the conference.

Men’s Triple Jump: 4th, Salmon, 13.36m and 6th Marquis Trainer, 13.24m
Men’s 60 Meter Dash: 6th, Taiwo Babawale-Thropp, 7.13
Men’s 400 Meter Dash: 7th, Sterlin Thropp, 52.52 and 8th Babawale-Thropp, 52.76
Women’s 800 Meter Run: 2nd, Dakota Johnson, 2:23.09
Men’s 200 Meter Dash: 3rd, Salmon, 22.87
Men’s 4×400 Meter Relay: 2nd, WVWC, 3:32.56
