WVWC’s Depp named MEC Special Teams Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT – The Mountain East Conference announced its Week 5 Football Players of the Week on Monday afternoon.
 
The MEC Football Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
UNC Pembroke wide receiver Trey Dixon was honored as this week’s Offensive Player of the Week, while West Liberty’s Cam Rice brought home Defensive Player of the Week accolades. West Virginia Wesleyan kicker Liam Depp was voted the Special Teams Player of the Week.
 
Dixon, a graduate wideout from Gibson, N.C., hauled in seven passes for 240 yards and four touchdowns on Saturday afternoon in a win over Wheeling. He broke the UNC Pembroke school records in both receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Dixon caught touchdown passes of 32-, 75-, 18- and 73-yards. Dixon averaged 34.3 yards per reception in Saturday’s game.
 
Rice, a sophomore defensive lineman from Morgantown, West Virginia, filled the stat sheet for West Liberty on Saturday, recording seven tackles (six solo), 4.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two pass break-ups and a forced fumble. He set single-season game highs in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks.
 
Depp, a junior from Elkins, W.Va., connected on three field goal against West Virginia State on Saturday, including attempts from 30-, 43- and 48-yards. He also made his lone extra-point attempt in Saturday’s game.
