WVWC men earn split; women fall in tri-outing with Wheeling and Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, MD. — The West Virginia Wesleyan swim teams traveled to Maryland on Saturday (Jan. 14) to compete in a dual meet versus Wheeling and Frostburg.

On the women’s side, sophomore Alayna Crane began the top rankings by earning second place in the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 1:15.00. Later, Crane added another third place to her record by finishing at 2:45.21 in the 200 meter backstroke. Jennifer Williams also contributed to her team’s points by placing third in the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:15.73, and Ashley Downes followed closely behind in fourth place with a time of 1:20.64. Morgan Bennett also secured a top ranking with her time of 1:09.24 in the 100 meter freestyle, earning her third place. Alienor Dalle also achieved a top ranking by finishing at 1:16.82 in the 100 meter butterfly. The relay team, consisting of Bennett, Dalle, Annalise Gentilozzi, and Crane, secured third place in the 400 meter freestyle.

On the men’s side, Nick Gerosa began by achieving a third place ranking in the 100 meter backstroke with a final time of 1:09.03. Gerosa also contributed to his team’s points by earning second place in the 200 meter backstroke, finishing at 2:31.92. The men ultimately were able to outshine Wheeling but fall to Frostburg.

The women’s swimming team fell versus Wheeling 159-89 and to Frostburg as well 183-71. The men’s swimming team won versus wheeling 89-49 but were defeated to Frostburg 212-30.

The WVWC swimming teams will hit the road on Friday (Jan. 20) for a meet versus Davis & Elkins at 6 p.m.
