WVU issues Community Notice after shots fired

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia University Police issued a Community Notice after a report of shots fired on Beverly Avenue just before 4 a.m. on Sunday (Aug. 27).

Morgantown Police are investigating the incident. No injuries were reported, and there was no immediate threat in the area.

WVU is committed to providing a safe campus for the protection of the University community. University officials remind students to always remain aware of their surroundings, walk in well-lit areas and consider other personal safety tips, advice and services located at safety.wvu.edu and police.wvu.edu.

The following safety tips are designed to help avoid potential crime.

  • Anyone who believes they are in danger should immediately call 911.
  • If you witness a potentially dangerous situation or a crime, call 911 or WVUPD.
  • Download WVU’s LiveSafe app.
  • Always be aware of your surroundings.
  • Know your neighborhood. Identify police and fire stations, libraries, emergency telephones – as well as the hours of operation of local stores and restaurants.
