MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Hospitals has been granted accreditation for nursing continuing professional development (NCPD) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This achievement demonstrates WVU Medicine leadership’s dedication to the professional growth and development of nursing staff and places the organization within an influential community of accredited organizations around the globe.

“We are extremely proud of the work we do to keep our nursing team engaged, learning, and growing professionally,” Heather Malcolm, M.S.N., R.N., N.P.D.-B.C., O.D.C.P., manager of Nursing Professional Practice and Education, said. “This accreditation is validation of that work and the investment we continue to make in our nurses.”

NCPD accreditation from the ANCC elevates educational offerings that benefit not only the nurses at WVU Hospitals, but the patients and communities it serves by:

  • Promoting the highest professional standards to sustain effective strategies that improve professional nursing practice
  • Improving curricula for nurses to provide evidence-based education that strengthens professional development programs
  • Increasing credibility through adherence to evidence-based, global standards that deliver quality, professional education
  • Expanding visibility to be included among other accredited organizations that are listed in a nationwide, searchable directory
  • Increasing demand to offer continuing professional development contact hours that are essential to building professional portfolios and maintaining certification and accreditation from ANCC and other licensing boards and regulatory bodies

“We want our current and future nurses to know that we are invested in them and are striving to create a place where they want to build and sustain their careers,” Malcolm said.
