WVU Board of Governors welcomes Harris and Riggs, hears update on COVID-19 response

West Virginia University Board of Governors Chairman David Alvarez began Friday’s (July 24) special meeting by welcoming Chase Riggs, who replaces Kate Dye as the student representative, as well as Dr. Patrice Harris, who was appointed to the BOG earlier in the day by Gov. Jim Justice. Harris replaces JR Rogers with a term that expires June 30, 2024.

“We are excited to have her join our Board, “Alvarez said. “And we will definitely miss JR – he’s been a long-time staple of our Board.”

Alvarez also offered congratulations and appreciation for the reappointments of current members Tom Jones and Taunja Willis Miller.

The Board, citing West Virginia Code §6-9A-4(b)(9) and (12), then entered executive session to discuss confidential legal, personnel, and deliberative matters relating to the University’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Members emerged with no additional discussion or action before adjourning.

The next regularly scheduled meeting is set for Sept. 18.
