CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources announced the following changes to boating regulations, effective immediately:

  • Over 10 hp motorboats are now permitted to operate at no wake speed on Elk Fork, North Bend, O’Brien, Stonecoal and Woodrum lakes. The same regulation is continuing for the Upper Mud River Lake.
  • No special permits are required.
  • Any vessel with an electric motor must operate at no wake speed on an electric motor only impoundment.

These changes were approved by the West Virginia Legislature during the 2026 Regular Session.
