Wrestling Bucs split home tri with John Marshall and Oak Hill; prepare for Big 10 Conference championships this Friday and Saturday

BUCKHANNON – The Buckhannon-Upshur wrestling Bucs had one final tune-up before they hit the post season with a home tri-outing with John Marshall Monarchs and Oak Hill Red Devils this past weekend.

The Bucs dropped a 45-24 decision to John Marshall but came back to knock off Oak Hill by a 63-12 score.

The Bucs raced out to a 12-0 lead on John Marshall with Nathaniel Tyson (106 pounds) winning by forfeit, Ian Cornett (113) winning a hard-fought 1-0 decision over Ryan Ward and Liam Garcia (120) earning a 5-0 decision over Atley Bonar.

John Marshall tied it at 12-12 but Andrew McDowell (138) pinned Alexander Harbert to give the lead back to the Bucs at 18-12.

John Marshall then rattled off the next six matches for a 39-18 advantage.

Jeremiah Thompson (215) picked up the final win for the Bucs getting a pin over Cayden Cochran.

Against Oak Hill, the Bucs won 11of the 13 matches with the 132-pound weight class being a double forfeit.

Getting wins for B-U were Tyson (106) by forfeit, Ian Cornett (113) by pin over Kirclyn Coleman, Liam Garcia (120) by pin over Jamison Swafford, Maya Garcia (126) by pin over Bryson Lego, McDowell (138) by pin over Joseph Jordan, Landon Zirkle (144) by forfeit, Nathan Cornett (150) by a 6-4 decision over Christopher Hale, Colton Wendling (157) by forfeit, Trevor Miller-Waycaster (175) by forfeit, Oscar Blonn  (190) by fall over Jeremy Lewis and Thompson (215) by forfeit.

The Bucs will compete in the two-day Big 10 Conference Championships at Philip Barbour starting on Friday and ending on Saturday and then will compete in the Region I Championships on Feb. 18 at Preston.
