TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur wrestling Bucs returned to the mat at home Wednesday evening hosting Fairmont Senior and Greenbrier East in a triangular event.

The Bucs had to forfeit three weight classes in the tri and it wound up costing them in both duals as they dropped a narrow 42-36 match to Greenbrier East and a 49-22 decision to Fairmont Senior.

The Bucs had to forfeit the 106, 144 and 157-pound weight classes.

“We entered the tri with the odds stacked against us giving up three weight classes to each team, which put us down 18 points before we even wrestle the first match,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jacob Orr. “We ended up losing to Greenbrier East by six, but everybody wrestled really well individually. It was the same thing with Fairmont Senior. We knew going into that dual it was an uphill battle with as they are a tough team, but again individually, we wrestled really well. I am so proud of the guys and where they are from where they started.”

Three Bucs went to 2-0 during the tri-outing. They were Liam Garcia (120 pounds), Dom Castillo (190) and Oscar Blonn (215). Going 1-1 for the Bucs were Jeremy Jett (11), Andrew McDowell (138) Evan McDowell (150), and Jeremiah Thompson (175).

The Bucs will remain at home Saturday hosting a quad with regional foes in Brooke, Preston and University.
