Two Davis Health System wound specialists recently attended the Wild on Wounds (WOW) conference in Phoenix, Arizona, a national event designed for caregivers with a passion for improving patient outcomes.
Emily Starks, APRN, FNP-C and Rebecca Depew, APRN, FNP-CNP participated in hands-on workshops, panel focus groups and attended informative educational sessions.
“We learned new, advanced wound and ostomy care treatments and technologies to better care for patients,” said Starks. “We’re bringing this knowledge back to our team to enhance the care we provide, ensuring we remain at the forefront of wound care management.”
Wound care is available at Davis Medical Center (DMC) in Elkins, and Broaddus Hospital in Philippi. The Elkins clinic is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and in Philippi on Thursdays.
“Wound care is critically important for people with diabetes or chronic diseases due to their increased risk of developing non-healing wounds,” said Broaddus Chief Administrative Officer Dana Gould. “We invest in the professional development of our wound care team because they deliver a vital specialized service close to home.”
The wound care programs provide advanced assessment and treatment to address a variety of non-healing or slow-healing wounds. Therapies include specialized dressings, diabetic foot ulcer management, infection prevention, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) and patient education and support.
